Music, Mouths, Eyes and More!

Music, Mouths, Eyes and More!
Early Learning Center

Early Learning Center students in Ms. Martha Hengels' class have the chance to participate in a variety of learning activities.

On this particular day, the students started out their day trying different musical instruments and making music together.

Ms. Hengels, who is a Preschool for All teacher, then explained to the students that their art project that day was creating their own mouth out of construction paper, complete with teeth.

Their goal was to count how many teeth they had, glue that many to their paper and then write the number on it.

Before they started working on the project, Ms. Hengels read the students a book about teeth.

She asked them questions about teeth such as "What are teeth used for?"

Another project that morning was finding an eye printout that matched the color of their own eyes.

When they chose their eye color, Ms. Hengels placed all of the printouts on a piece of black construction paper and the students saw what the most common eye color in the class was.

Stations were set up around the room and the students enjoyed participating in the various activities the stations had to offer.

Some students created their mouth art project, while others had fun playing with large cardboard building blocks or smaller stacking blocks.

Students also could play dress up, trying on multiple uniforms, pretending to be a policeman or fireman.

One of the more popular stations was a hospital station in which students could dress up in scrubs and "diagnose" problems their "baby doll" had.

The inquisitive students had fun creating art, learning about themselves, building structures and pretending.
