STAR Students Meet the Color Monster
Students in Mr. Rodriguez's STAR class had the opportunity to meet the Color Monster for the first time this week.
Mr. Rodriguez started the class by asking students to find their name tags and place them on a board under the emotion they were feeling at the moment. He then practiced letters with the students and each letter had an action associated with it. For example, A was to make a circle with your Ankle.
The students then sat down on the carpet while Mr. Rodriguez read the book The Color Monster to them.
The book helps young children learn about different kinds of emotions and understand what they might look and feel like.
Mr. Rodriguez used a communication board while reading the book and pointed to the different emotions on that board.
After snack time, the students split into small groups.
One small group had a chance to play a game of "emotion bingo."
Mr. Rodriguez would pick the card and have the students help him identify what emotion it was.
They then looked at their card to see if that emotion was on it and, if so, placed a chip on the card.
Other activities students had the chance to participate in included block building, coloring and cutting pieces of paper out to make their own color monster.
