Ms. Jessica Richter's preschool class at the Westerhold Early Learning Center had a busy day playing indoors and learning their letters.

The students enjoyed walking around obstacle courses they made with stepping stones and they had fun maintaining their balance on a balance beam.

Some of the students built creative structures out of large blocks, while others had fun playing with a parachute.

The students then went back to the classroom and began working with Ms. Richter on a phonics lesson.

The students gathered on the carpet and, as Ms. Richter sounded out a word, they would repeat it.

The preschoolers are learning all about rhyming, blending, segmenting and manipulating sounds, all essential tools for learning how to read.

A student volunteer stood in front of the group and as he pointed to each letter with a pointing stick his classmates said it out loud.

At the end of the lesson the students sang a song to help them remember the letters they had learned that day.
